How did you get into styling?
I have a strong background in fashion retail, which started my love for fashion in general. During my time working with customers in store, I realized that there was a genuine need amongst women for personalized, expert fashion advice. I decided to study a Diploma in Styling at The Australian Institute of Creative Design to gain the knowledge, understanding, and experience to best enable me to help a diverse range of clients.
What is the most rewarding part of being a stylist?
The most rewarding part of being a stylist is helping people to look their absolute best and feel nothing short of incredible. There is nothing better than the moment when all of your ideas come together for your client and they have a renewed sense of confidence in themselves.
What is the most memorable moment of your career so far?
The most memorable moment of my career so far would be styling a number of looks for a fashion parade that I also managed whilst studying my diploma. Presenting my styled looks to industry elites as the finale for the show was so exciting and deeply fulfilling.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
I would like to be in the fashion world, where I feel most at home and in a position where I can inspire others to be the best version of themselves. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure where I see myself professionally in 10 years time and I think that this opens up a world of opportunities to me.
How would you describe your own personal style?
I would describe my personal style as casual yet refined. I rely heavily on good quality, well-fitting basics to make up the foundations of my wardrobe. I then inject seasonal pieces that I like and will work for my lifestyle. I also really like to play around with accessories to change up my look.
What is your favorite thing about being a Style Counsel Stylist?
I love how Style Counsel gives me the ability as a stylist to help women in real time situations when they have a wardrobe dilemma. By giving my advice I hope that I can give Style Counsel users confidence in the knowledge that they look fashionable and put together.
If someone was feeling insecure about their sense of style, what advice would you give them?
If someone was feeling insecure about their sense of style I would initially help them work through exactly what they’re insecure about. This is an important place to start because you simply won’t have any confidence if you’re insecure about your appearance. As a professional stylist, I’m able to help clients work around whatever they’re insecure about, eliminating what isn’t working for them in their wardrobe and suggesting a range of options that I think they could try to give them back their confidence and let their individual sense of style shine through.
When you are not working and styling our users how do you spend your time?
I spend a lot of my downtime still in the fashion world by scrolling my Instagram and Pinterest feeds and reading magazines for trend and styling inspiration. I have my own website that I am constantly updating and try to post to my blog as frequently as I can too. I also really enjoy traveling on weekends and exploring new places with my husband.
Where is your favorite place to shop?
My favorite places to shop are at small independent boutiques. I love pottering around little shops like these because you never know what you’re going to find and they usually stock unique pieces from local designers. I like hunting out different things that I know not every second person will be wearing on the street. I also really enjoy outlet shopping as I can’t resist a bargain!
What was the last item of clothing you bought?
A checkered blazer from H&M. I wanted an easy, versatile update for my wardrobe that I could wear during the unpredictable weather in London. I’ve been styling the blazer with skinny jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers for a casual look.
If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Slim jeans, a statement tee, and ballet flats. This is my favorite go-to outfit that I know I can rely on to look casual yet refined. I then add jewelry and scarves to vary the look depending on where I am going and what I’m doing.
