Meet our Stylist Leah, the gorgeous bombshell has had a wicked career working as a Buyer at Topshop. Read on to find out what she has learned from her career, how you can find confidence in your sense of style and why she loves Style Counsel.
What made you decide to study International Fashion Marketing?
Ever since I was a small child I was obsessed with clothing and fashion trends, and my parents were always great at encouraging us to be whatever we wanted to be when we grew up. I can remember boldly saying at the age of 16 that I was going to be a buyer at Topshop one day and so taking up a degree in IFM was the first step! Marketing was the main module but we also studied buying, design, and finance.
What was the most valuable thing you learn as a Fashion Buyer at Topshop?
Gosh, I learned so much! But I would say the biggest value I learnt was that you should always let your passion guide you; and never give up on something you believe in – making others believe in my vision was a huge part of my role, and seeing so many girls in product I made happen gave me such an amazing feeling!
What made you decide to go freelance as a Stylist?
As a buyer I catered for lots of women with different styles, shapes, ages etc on a daily basis, and I just love giving outfit advice. There is so much pressure on women to look good these days and I think a lot of women lack confidence in their fashion decisions as a result; so being able to help them feel confident and comfortable in whatever they’re wearing is great.
How would you describe your sense of style?
Grungy, glam and LA vintage. My mum still questions why I would want to wear someone else’s clothes but you can find some amazing one-off gems at flea markets!
What is your go-to outfit on a day where you just can’t decide what to wear?
I have this great black wrap front jumpsuit from Never Fully Dressed which is about three years old now; it looks great with my Nikes in the day or a pair of heels at night!
What would your classic ‘going out with the girls’ outfit be?
Pair of black skinny jeans, strappy little bodysuit, killer stilettos, my Kooples leather jacket thrown over my shoulders and a red lip and nail.
What do you think is the key to someone finding their own sense of style?
Age! During my teens and 20s, I experienced with a million different looks but it wasn’t until my late 20s that I worked out what I felt comfortable in and what actually felt like me – never dress for anyone else only yourself!
What do you like about being a Style Counsel Stylist?
We’ve all been in that moment where we feel like we don’t know what to wear for a night out, work etc and want to scream loudly… So being able to help women with this when they’re in that moment gives you a great buzz – the fact its instant help is amazing! I also like that you can post inspiration pics for people to browse and shop from.
What was the last item of clothing you bought?
I actually had a little splurge in & Other Stories recently and bought a fabulous black maxi wrap dress to chuck on with trainers; and a great off-white v neck cardigan with big chunky buttons which I wear it as a top tucked into jeans!
What is on your wish list for when you next go shopping?
New vintage Levi jeans
Floral print maxi dress
