Meet Our Stylists: Sandra BlazinskaiteBy Style Counsel / April 18, 2018 / Blog,Interviews / 0 Comments
Meet Style Counsel Stylist Sandra Blazinskaite, she works for Thom Browne as a brand specialist and is an advocate for making women feel confident in what they wear! Read our interview with her to find out why she loves Style Counsel, who she follows on Instagram for style inspiration and where she shops.
What sparked your passion for fashion?
I think it came to me naturally, my earliest fashion-related memory is my grandmother having overpacked wardrobes full of clothes and still complaining that she had nothing to wear. I am from quite a small city in Lithuania and we did not have much choice of places we could shop while I was growing up, however, my mum was always really into going the extra mile to get something different yet stylish for me to wear, thus I believe I just inherited it from the women in my family.
What style advice would you give your teenage self?
Listen to my mum more. I did go through a period of wearing very wide and very long jeans thinking it was cool, she did not stop me from doing this, however, every time she was not approving something, I would think I knew better. Guess what, I did not. I also was quite dependent on my parents’ choices, since they were the ones paying for the clothes, thus, luckily, I managed to avoid horrible faux pas in my teenage years.
Who is your main fashion inspiration and why?
I am very lucky to live in one of the greatest fashion capitals – London. I get inspired every single day by seeing stylish people around me, also, I am a very big fan of Instagram, I think I sometimes overdose on it though. I do like a variety of different trends; however, I know what suits me and what does not, hence I admire a lot of stylish women for their diversity and finding their own feet in fashion. I think I mostly get inspired by women who work in fashion and take it seriously yet are having fun with their outfits. If I would need to name the exact people that have the sense of style which is the closest to my heart and I would love to own every single piece from their wardrobe, I would definitely say Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert and Hannah Strafford-Taylor.
A few accounts that I follow on Instagram and find inspiring are @bat_gio, @elizabethvdg, @lisa.aiken, @laurabrown99, @louisenichol, @karenwazenb, @roseminsworld, @songofstyle, @somethingnavy, @hannahstraffordtaylor, @monikh, @bettinalooney, @annarvitiello, @svetlana_griaznova, and many many more.
Do you think fashion can boost someone’s confidence?
One million percent. An outfit can lift you up or bring you down very easily. Even I have days when I change 30 outfits and nothing fits. If I find myself in ‘nothing suits me today’ situation, I either go for my uniform outfit that never fails or, probably once a year, I end up wearing something that was untouched in my wardrobe for some time and end up feeling bad and uncomfortable in my skin. Style Counsel is a great help in these situations! It is amazing how technology and human knowledge can be combined to provide real-time help to a lot of women.
What is your favorite thing about being a Style Counsel Stylist?
Definitely being able to provide real-time help for women that need advice with their wardrobe choices and also hoping that they will take it into consideration when dressing up the next morning. I find it’s a social responsibility – I think lifting up other women is a wonderful thing and I try to do it as much as I can. Being a Style Counsel Stylist really gives me joy and I also think it is a great source of style inspiration too.
When you are not styling our users what do you do?
I have a full-time job as a brand specialist for Thom Browne in one of the best department stores in the world. When I have a free minute, I check Instagram for latest updates, check new arrivals of my favorite shops, try to keep up with other social media and talk a lot to my friends. I also like traveling, hence spend quite a lot of time thinking about the outfits for my next journeys! I love to unwind with my friends over a nice dinner, and when I get some me time, it is a lot of 80-90s music and a hot bath with Laura Mercier products.
As a Brand Specialist at Thom Browne, what is your favorite thing about this role?
I always say that the biggest reward in whatever I do is people that I meet. It can be colleagues, it can be customers, everyone is so unique in their own different way and a lot of times a short chat can develop into a long friendship, which I appreciate a lot. Apart from the people, I, of course, enjoy working for one of the greatest brands of our time and being surrounded by amazing clothes that everyone adores. And I also get to wear the best uniform ever!
Where is your favorite place to shop?
If I had an unlimited budget, it would definitely be Net-a-Porter, Matchesfashion.com, The Modist, and Harrods, I think these places are absolutely amazing with their choices for high-end designer product as well as emerging designers. I do like playing mix and match with my clothes, hence I shop quite a lot on the high street. I truly love ZARA and I do not think there is anything else that beats them. I love Uterque too, followed by &Other Stories, MANGO, Topshop, Massimo Dutti and H&M. I would go to Sandro, The Kooples, Self-Portrait and Joseph for something in between high-end and high street.
What was the last item of clothing you bought?
Good question, I had to get some help with that. It was a pair of cropped black jeans from ZARA and a pleated leopard skirt from &other stories.
If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
As much as I love dresses and high heels, I will stick to a pair of good black jeans (The Kooples nails it), white t-shirt (I love H&M for this) and a simple pair of loafers (Gucci style called Jordan). I would add a cashmere jumper (ZARA, Uniqlo, Massimo Dutti) and a classic bomber jacket (my Acne one has done very well) for colder days and carry my things in a cross body/shoulder bag (Chanel quilted). Also, I almost never leave home without a red lipstick on, so that would be my accessory for the rest of my life to compliment my outfit.
