Trends We Are Copying From MumBy Style Counsel / March 11, 2018 / Blog,Style / 0 Comments
Looking back at pictures of our Mums rocking endless denim, bum bags and terrible haircuts is an undeniably comical moment. Whilst we find it easy to laugh at how they used to dress we forget that we are actually replicating looks that used to be fashionable back in our mother’s prime. Here are five items that we should thank our Mum’s generation for:
The name says it all, the loosely fitted high-waisted jeans are a huge hit with millennials and we just can’t get enough of them. Mom jeans are a must-have in your wardrobe as their versatility allows you to pair them with a t-shirt, a slinky going out top or a jumper for the perfect outfit.
The combat, army-type boots that lace the whole way up were something our moms definitely wore. Although we aren’t seeing as many lace-up boots in stores, the chunky black boot is a staple item for the colder months, creating an instant 80’s feel to any outfit.
In the ’80s. You could wear that hot pink fanny pack with your green shirt any day, the little gem acted as a purse and a belt, allowing you to hold your lipstick whilst also holding up your jeans. While this item is the marmite of all bags we cannot deny that a bum bag remains extremely handy at a festival or gig. We have also seen the rise of bum bags being worn around the chest from the likes of Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid.
Flannel shirts remain as diverse and trendy as they were back in the days where your mum was the one sneaking in at 3 am. A flannel shirt tucked into a pair of black skinny jeans or tied around your waist is a trend that we can’t seem to shake off but it is one that you definitely need to thank the older generation for.
“All denim everything” is what Kanye would have been preaching if he was around back in the days. Denim jackets have become a must-have item for the spring and summer months. Vintage denim is also a great look so why not ask your Mum if she still has a denim jacket lingering in her wardrobe somewhere!
